It can be difficult to know for sure if your silver jewelry is real or not. Silver is valuable and costs a lot more when compared to other metals. But in today’s world, there is a risk that you can be fooled into buying fake silver jewelry.
Here are some helpful tips for identifying the purity of your jewelry.
The real silver product will always have a .925 imprint on it. It’s the 925 Sterling Stamp, which jewelers imprint on their manufactured jewelry. So, check that mark.
You can also check whether it is authentic or not, in 4 ways.
- By looking at its color, peeling and layers - if it tarnishes, it is real and can be polished back to its original state.
- By smelling it - if it smells like sulphur or unnatural - it is not silver.
- By touching its surface - if it is smooth, shiny when polished - it is real.
- The last one is the magnetic test, in which if the jewelry gets attracted to a magnet, then it is impure - not silver.
